West System: The 105 System

West System epoxy is a versatile, high- quality, two-part epoxy that is easily modified for a wide range of coating and adhesive applications. It is used for construction and repairs requiring superior moisture resistance and high strength. It bonds to fiber-materials, and is especially suited for marine applications.

The 105 resin is the basic ingredient of all West System epoxy compounds.

Fast Hardener 205
Controlling cure time:
Two factors determine an epoxy mixture’s open time and overall cure time – hardener cure speed and epoxy temperature.

Slow Hardener 206
Adapting to warm and cool temperatures
In warm conditions, gain open time by using a slower hardener, if possible. Mix smaller batches that can be used up quickly, or pour the epoxy mixture into a container with greater surface area.

Extra Slow Hardener
Exothermic heat is produced by the chemical reaction that cures epoxy. The amount of heat produced depends on the thickness or exposed surface area of mixed epoxy. The thinner the layer of curing epoxy, the less it is affected by exothermic heat, and the slower it cures.

Special Coating Hardener
This special coating hardener allows the normal 105 resin to be converted to a surface coating that has long term clarity and UV resistance as well as the most appropriate characteristics for coating and paint compatibility.
