The event took place in the Governor’s Mansion on Friday. Recipients are selected by meeting criteria of "exceptional voluntary and personal service or achievements." Ferron’s accomplishments to earn him the decoration of Knight include his pioneer work in the yachting business on the island since 1980, his founding and developing the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta into a huge event that attracts thousands of visitors, and his success in expanding the company Budget Marine to several other Caribbean Islands. In addition, he has been Chairman of the Caribbean Sailing Association since 1994.

This year, three Knights were named. Robbie Ferron, Walter Kramers and Millicent de Weever.
